Bekins Driver Receives Industry Award

Veteran Moving Van Operator Honored by Trade Group

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Robert Stanton of Daytona Beach, Fla. has been chosen to receive a prestigious Super Van Operator award for 2010 from the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA), the industry’s national trade association.

The annual awards recognize van operators (drivers) who demonstrate excellent records in safety and customer service.  Stanton is being honored in the Special Commodities category.  He has been an owner-operator for Bekins Van Lines of Hillside, Ill. for 36 years.

Stanton, 55, has driven more than 2.3 million miles with no chargeable accidents, and has received numerous other driving awards during his career. Unique items he has transported over the years range from components for manned and unmanned space missions to locker room fixtures for the new Dallas Cowboys stadium.

Stanton was a Bekins Driver of the Year for 2009 and won the carrier’s President’s Award in 2010.  He has been called “meticulous” and “tireless” by customers, who have added he has a “myopic focus on customer service and satisfaction.”  Outside of work, he donates time and money to the Florida Aging Council.

The 2010 Super Van Operator - Special Commodities is one of four annual AMSA awards honoring drivers and owner-operators who provide safe, reliable, and customer-oriented moving services; the others are Super Van Operator for Household Goods, the Super Van Operator Lifetime Achievement Award, and Super Van Operator Rookie of the Year.  Judging criteria include miles driven, accidents (preventable or non-preventable), lifetime driving record, financial responsibility, community involvement, customer service, driving awards and outside interests and activities.
“AMSA congratulates Robert Stanton,” said AMSA President & CEO Linda Bauer Darr.  “He has demonstrated the
highest level of dedication to safety and service during 2010.  He’s a great example of a ProMover.” ProMover is the industry’s certification program that helps consumers easily identify a quality, professional mover.
In addition to industry recognition, Stanton will receive a special leather jacket, a gold watch and other prizes at AMSA’s 2011 Education Conference & Expo in Jacksonville, Fla. from March 6-9.
